Orlando peeps- what are your NYE plans? I would like to try to see you guys while i am in town from 12/31-1/2

i stayed home almost all weekend. if it werent for tropical storm fay i possibly would have gone to do *something* but it was no sweat to stay home and relax. i did some cleaning friday night so that i wouldnt have to do anything on saturday. saturday i spent the day in my pjs with the curtains open in my room. i watched the storm on tv and right out the window. it wasnt a bad storm- its just never easy to be in a storm during the night alone. luckily it didnt get bad until saturday morning. even though it was just a tropical storm it reminded me of hurricane jeanne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Jeanne) in 2004. maybe it was the daytime aspect, the intense howling wind or the sideways rain.

by the time the intense wind died down i was antsy. i was asked to meet a guy from okcupid for dinner so i did. we had a nice time, he was nice and smiled a lot. no red flags but no amazing fireworks either. i expect we will be friends and thats cool with me!

sunday was another resting day. i rained again on and off all day and was disgustingly humid. i stayed in my pjs until about 8 last night when i showered and put on clean ones! i cooked a turkey meatloaf and some whole wheat couscous with zucchini, onion and cheese. it was REALLY good and i am looking forward to eating it again for lunch today.

opal was very good and calm all weekend, thank GOD. those who know her have seen her get into a panic over a drop or rain or a loud noise. i filled a Rx for her of valium friday on my way home from work, but she didnt need it once! whew. she got a little nervous a few times, i think hearing the wind howl the way it did- but i didnt blame her it was very eery sounding. there has been a thunder storm here this morning and she was really unhappy about that starting before 6am. she quickly did her business and came back in and stayed under my feet while i made her breakfast and cleaned up buddy's cage. she refused to eat her food until i was out of the shower and standing next to her in the bathroom, even though i have a glass shower door and she could see me the entire time. she actually tried to come into the shower with me, which is also hilarious since she HATES baths, but i didnt let her since i just put her flea stuff on her neck last night.

speaking of fleas, i am anticipating an increase in bugs now that the storm has passed and we have a lot of standing water. i have about 5 big mosquito bites from mosquitos that were trapped on my sideporch during the storm. it was the least windy spot to let opal out from on saturday and i ended up getting bitten in the process. yuck. i just hope that the fleas stay under control, i really freak out when i cant keep them off of her.

my mom called me saturday evening and told me that lilly and hunter got in a fight. all of the dogs are lippy at each other over food and treats, and while we dont condone it, we think its normal dog behavior. she said that this was awful though. hunter found an old rawhide chew stick and lilly decided she wanted it. usually she gets her way but this time hunter wasnt sharing. she provoked him and he lunched at her. they were both really shakin up after the scuffle and lilly has some marks and cuts on her head. my mom is currently on disability from work due to continued problems with her knee and couldnt get up fast enough to break them up. by the time she got to lilly she was hiding under the dining room table. mom says she has some bad scratches on her chin and forehead and a near the corner of her eye. luckily all of the spots are in places lilly cant lick, so my mom is able to doctor her with a warm rag and neosporin. she said they arent every having a rawhide chew again!

i was in walmart last night minding my own business looking at greeting cards when a creepy dude came barrelling around the corner almost running into me. he didnt have enough time (in my opinion) to form this plan (from the time he came around the corner to the time he spoke) so i think he must have seen me and came around the corner almost on top of me on purpose. he says really fast "you look familiar do you work for the department of health?" i say "no i dont" he says "hmm well where do you work?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? does he really think im going to tell him where i work? i said "im sorry, i dont know you im not going to tell you where i work" he huffs off down to the other end of the cards. right. i dont tell you, a stranger, where i work and YOU are pissy about it? i dont think so.

i have been having very intense, very real and very creeped out nightmares every night since saturday. i havent been stressing anything, im not eating weird foods, or eating late. i just cant figure it out. last night's dream was a huge tornado. i woke up at 4:45 and got up, fuck taking the chance that i will dream like that again "tonight". so i went to walmart at 5am.

i bought a "rinse out" hair color last night. dark blonde turned my hair a very very ugly brown. so i pretty much bleached it this morning. its kind of strawberry blonde right now and way more tolerable than the brown it was as of 10 pm last night. i think i will go look for a neutral tone blonde i have used before and do that tonight. i just couldnt manage going to chicago with my hair in a shape AND color i hate. the shape is hate because im trying (seriously this time) to grow my hair a bit. i might not last much longer, but im trying. it desperately needs a trim and that makes it really difficult.

im going to chicago tomorrow. it will be about 80 when my flight leaves sarasota, and about 15 when i arrive. can someone please tell me how to dress for that! im thinking jeans and a long sleeved shirt, with flip flops to start. i will bring socks, boots, a sweater, my coat, gloves, hat and scarf in my carry on. i have to be dressed to go to kim's birthday dinner when i get off the plane. heck.

HERE IS A QUESTION:

i have always had a pet peeve about wearing brown shoes with black clothes . when i am in chicago, i will be mostly wearing my brown boots, as they are the warmest. but my dressier clothes are black. how bad is it if i wear jeans with brown boots and a black shirt? can i get away with it? would YOU dress like that? would it help if i toss in other colors (layering, scarf, accessories?) HALP!
